One thing I know is the criminal-justice system. After graduating law school, I worked on the criminal appeals of indigent defendants. I then went on to work as a presentence investigator for the federal government. And for almost a decade, I’ve taught criminal justice at a college in New York. Divorce for me was a rebirth. I finally was willing to take a long, hard look at who I was and how I was living my life, and with the birth of my son soon approaching, I had to make some big changes. So I started the process of doing the hard work on myself to create the life I truly want. I read, did yoga, walked, listened to podcasts, meditated, and wrote—a lot (and I still do all those things). In 2014, I began chronicling my life as a divorced middle-aged mom on my blog, She Is Terri Linton. My writing has since appeared in online publications and on websites including the Huffington Post, Parent.co, and Mamamia. And at this fabulous age of 45, I am living my dream of being a writer. Soon I will begin work on my third degree—a master of fine arts in creative nonfiction writing. Life is not at all what I imagined it to be, but it certainly is good.
