Lord Byron: Like Mother, Like Son

Lord Byron: Like Mother, Like Son

Tempestuous, notorious, and scandalous, the poet Lord Byron by all accounts took after his equally formidable mother, Catherine Gordon. An heiress, Gordon fell for a gold-digger who died when their son, Byron, was three. Bryon’s reputation was built not only on his gorgeous Romantic poetry but on his torrid affairs. He had a tumultuous relationship with his mother, whom he said indulged him “sometimes with holidays and now and then with a box on the ear.”
