Nurse Connie McHugh separated from her son’s father even before the baby was born, eventually moving to Los Angeles from Knoxville, Tennessee, child in tow. The boy, whom audiences came to know as screenwriter, cinematographer, and actor Quentin Tarantino, developed a love for film early. “I have loved movies as the number one thing in my life so long that I can’t ever remember a time when I didn’t,” Tarantino told The Telegraph in 2010. “As a child, my mom took me to the movies all the time. It was cheaper than getting a babysitter.” He recalled seeing “R-rated stuff” like The Wild Bunch and Deliverance at a very young age, saying, “My mom figured that nothing in the movies would ever bother me.” This early immersion informed Tarantino’s own films, known for their distinctive blend of violence and pop-culture references. But as his mother has noted, her son has always demonstrated a unique brand of creativity. “He wrote me sad Mother’s Day stories,” Connie once told Entertainment Weekly. “He’d always kill me and tell me how bad he felt about it. It was enough to bring a tear to a mother’s eye.”
Be sure to catch Tarantino's latest movie, The Hateful Eight, coming out Christmas 2015.
