Jodie Foster: “I Love You, I Love You, I Love You”

Jodie Foster: “I Love You, I Love You, I Love You”

Circumstances led Jodie Foster and her mother, Brandy, to forge a close bond: Jodie’s father left the family before she was born, and her much older siblings were soon out of the house as well. Even as she managed Jodie’s career as a child actor, Brandy encouraged her to look beyond Hollywood, leading Foster to earn a degree at Yale. As she made an unusually smooth transition from child actor to Oscar-winning star to director and producer, Foster drew on her roots for inspiration: “The single-parent relationship obsesses me in some ways because it’s all I’ve ever known,” she once told Rolling Stone. Accepting a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2013 Golden Globes, Foster honored her mother, who has dementia: “Mom, I know you’re inside those blue eyes somewhere and that there are so many things that you won’t understand tonight. But this is the only important one to take in: I love you, I love you, I love you.”

You can watch the full speech below. Skip ahead to the 4:32 when she gives a moving shout out to her mom.
