Melissa Etheridge: Knowing How To Love

Melissa Etheridge: Knowing How To Love

Advocating for gay rights and the environment, recording albums, beating breast cancer, and raising four children . . . it’s all in a day’s work for Melissa Etheridge. The Kansas-born musician has racked up 17 Grammy nominations, won two of the awards, and even scored an Oscar for Best Song (“An Inconvenient Truth”). She rocked the world of rock n’ roll when she came out as a lesbian in 1993 and has been committed to standing up for gay rights ever since. Etheridge has two teenagers (Bailey and Beckett) with ex Julie Cypher and a set of younger twins (Johnny and Miller) with ex Tammy Lynn Michaels. “I think being a parent is knowing how to love,” she has said. “Sometimes love is discipline, sometimes it’s humor, sometimes it’s listening.”
