For Padma Lakshmi, the Indian-born cookbook author, television host, and Solo Mom to daughter Krishna, romance takes a backseat to parenting. “I date a lot less as a single mom. I just don’t have the time,” the Top Chef host told reporters at an AIDS benefit in New York City. “You just want to be careful because you have a family.” Lakshmi, who shares custody of Krishna with venture capitalist Adam Dell, doesn’t sugarcoat the realities of being a working single parent, but she feels gratitude for her life. “I have struggled with it,” she told More magazine. “It’s not easy, but I have a great career and I have my daughter. So what I don’t have is not as important to me as what I do have.”
Lakshmi’s moving memoir, Love, Loss, and What We Ate, was released in 2016.
