As a girl growing up in Vermont, American romance novel writer Karen Anders loved books. After reading William Goldman’s The Princess Bride and a well-worn copy of a book called The Sheik that her grandma gave her, she developed a particular fondness for books about romance; as an adult, that love of reading and relationships led her to write romance titles of her own. Her breakout book, Jennifer’s Outlaw, was published in 1997. A divorced mom of two girls, Anders still managed to squeeze in time to write amidst her roles as a Solo Mom and an administrative assistant for a university dean. But navigating her schedule can sometimes be a challenge. As Anders told blogger Phoebe Jordan in 2009, “[Balance] is a challenge as I work a full time job and do my writing on the side. It’s all about focus.” And having loved ones in your corner. “I juggle everything else,” Anders continued. “When I need support, my youngest daughter helps me out tremendously. I don’t know what I would do without her.” Anders is a three-time National Readers’ Choice Awards finalist and a recipient of the prestigious HOLT (Honoring Outstanding Literary Talent) Medallion. Anders lives in North Carolina with her two grown children and one gray cat. She’s currently writing romantic comedy and adult contemporary romance under the pen name Zoe Dawson.
