Deadline: March 15, 2018
ESME (Empowering Solo Moms Everywhere) is offering a $1,500 college scholarship to the son or daughter of a Solo Mom who most embodies the strength, resilience, and educational attainment that we hope to inspire at ESME. The award is open to any college student raised by a Solo Mom—a woman who parented primarily on her own. Solo Moms include women who are divorced, widowed, solo by choice or circumstance, or solo because of a partner’s deployment or incarceration. The winner will be selected based on a current transcript of course work and grades, and—most important—an essay of 500 to 750 words. The winning recipient and his or her essay will be featured on ESME.com. The essay should be in the format of a thank-you letter to your Solo Mom for inspiring you to pursue educational excellence.
To apply, send a college/university transcript and your essay to firstname.lastname@example.org with “ESME Child of Solo Mom Scholarship” in the subject line.
All applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be currently attending college
- Be a U.S. citizen
- Have a minimum grade point average of 2.5
- Be working toward a degree at an accredited university
- Cannot be affiliated with ESME
Judging will be done by the ESME Scholarship Review Board and will focus on applicants who embody strength and resilience in reaching for their educational goals. The winning essay is expected to be well written, personal, and inspiring.
We reserve the right to verify high school and college transcripts of any applicant. Applications must be received by 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time, March 15, 2018.
Your contact information will never be given or sold to third parties under any circumstance, and you will never be contacted by ESME or our affiliated companies for any reason unrelated to the scholarship program.
By submitting an application, you agree that your name and/or likeness and your essay may be used in promotional material such as, but not limited to, social media posts, press releases, blog posts, articles, and news stories.
