Center on Halsted
The Center on Halsted offers programs on or for advocacy, behavioral health, HIV/AIDS and STDs, senior citizens, women, and youth. There is also a cyber center. The center's community and cultural programs reach out to bisexuals, children and families, transgender individuals, and women. There is a full-size gymnasium on the third floor, and many meeting spaces.
This organization's focus is on social justice on behalf of Black LGBTQ communities, queer youth, and allies, to identify emergency needs, create safe spaces, develop leaders, and bridge communities through collective analysis and action for social justice, freedom, and human rights. They lead a civic engagement initiative called We the People, an immigration initiative called Building Bridges, and a health initiative called Caring and Compassionate Communities,
Rainbow Families of Illinois
This is a non-profit, community-based organization that includes lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender parents and their children and those considering parenthood. Their mission is to build and maintain a strong and caring community recognizing the broad diversity and varied interests among the families they service. This is a volunteer organization with more than 80 LGBT families currently participating in the Chicago area. They have a calendar of events and a blog.
This organization advances equal treatment and social justice through education, advocacy, and protection of the rights of the LGBTQ community.
